Hours: 15-20 per week
Reports to: Jazz 93.5 Station Manager
General Summary of the Position: The Jazz Music Director is responsible for curating and maintaining the station’s jazz programming, ensuring an engaging and informative listening experience. This role requires a strong expertise in jazz music across various subgenres. The director collaborates closely with the Station Manager to execute the station's vision, manages the music library, and oversees music rotations.
Key responsibilities include reviewing and approving music for the library, coordinating special programming, maintaining relationships with artists and labels, and conducting audience research. The role also involves handling reporting requirements, participating in fundraising efforts, and attending station meetings. Strong leadership, communication, and technical skills are essential, along with a deep passion for jazz and a commitment to engaging audiences effectively.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
· Working closely with the Station Manager to make sure the vision and sound for the station is being executed.
· Reviewing and approving all music to be added into the library.
· Maintains the compact disc library in a neat and orderly manner.
· Identify and inform the Station Manager of any problems with inventory.
· Coordinating with the Station Manager for holiday and specialty programs.
· Creating/tweaking the hourly clocks for G-Selector automation.
· Creating/tweaking music categories for G-Selector automation in coordination with Station Manager.
· Acquiring and getting new music into the library on a weekly basis.
· Making sure music rotations are functioning properly.
· Cultivation of relationships with Jazz music labels, promoters and individual artists; locally and nationally so that we are maintaining quality content in the library.
· Conducts audience research, analyzes and prepares reports showing who listens, when, and for how long to share with the Station Manager.
· Handle all Sound Exchange reporting and any additional program reports as needed.
· Participation in all on-air fundraising campaigns unless approved by station manager.
· Attendance in bi-weekly staff meetings, jazz host meetings and other internal meetings as needed.

Skills:
· Strong knowledge of all styles of jazz
· Strong computer skills including database management, audio editing software, etc.
· Appreciation for non-profit mission while operating with a strong business focus.
· Ability to represent Jazz 93.5’s interest to select partners, communities, National distributors, and other organizations.
· Demonstrative track record of leadership in building audiences through effective radio programming.
· Manages multiple priorities and brings new concepts to fruition.
· Possesses excellent management and communication skills with the ability to work in a highly collaborative work environment.
