The Senior Morning Producer will lead a team of producers, anchors, reporters, photographers, and digital content producersThis position requires someone who is aggressive on breaking news and willing to go all-in with the big story.  Line producing experience with solid writing and showcasing abilities required.  This leadership position requires sound news judgement and the ability to make split-second decisions, while effectively managing a team in stressful situations.  We are looking for an “outside of the box” thinker who is constantly looking for ways to differentiate our newscasts.  The Senior Morning Producer must have the drive to win every day and be a go-getter on TV and digital platforms.  This position will require a candidate with exceptional people skills who can coach and mentor a diverse team of individuals at all levels.  The successful candidate must always have a solid understanding of leading by example.  This is a good opportunity for a strong producer looking for their first step into a management role.  The Senior Morning Producer will join a news management team that values employees and prioritizes work culture. 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Ensure quality and accuracy in newscasts. 
  • Drive showcasing, pacing and content decisions in newscasts. 
  • Ensure breaking and developing news makes it into the newscasts. 
  • Approve all producer scripts and reporter scripts. 
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with staff during high stress situations. 
  • Work closely with the Assignment Manager to lead on morning content planning. 
  • Work closely with the news management team. 
  • Lead training for new hires and current producers. 
  • Lead on special projects as assigned by the News Director. 
  • Must lead daily operations without the News Director and news managers. 

  

Required Qualifications: 

  • BA/BS in journalism, communications, or related field,  
  • Must have 2+ years of experience producing newscasts. 
  • Must have solid understanding of legal liabilities and ethics. 
  • Must be a “people” person who wants to lead and inspire. 
  • Knowledge of Ross, Canva and Axis graphics. 
  • Must be able to be on call 24/7 to be able to respond to staff inquiries and newsroom needs. 
  • Must be able to occasionally shift schedule at the last minute to work nights, weekends, and mornings, based on coverage needs.

Annual Salary Range:  

$45,000 to $50,000; based on experience. Non-Exempt.

KRDO13 is in downtown Colorado Springs, Colorado, near the base of Pikes Peak, along the front range of the Rocky Mountains, and close to Garden of the Gods. Colorado Springs is often rated as one of the country’s best cities to live in. It is a big city with a small-town feel, with Castle Rock and Denver within an hour’s drive.
